Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is a procedure performed to treat and save a tooth with damaged or inflamed dental pulp.
Dental pulp is the soft tissue inside a tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When the dental pulp is inflamed or damaged, pain and sensitivity occur. Root canal treatment involves removing the damaged dental pulp, cleaning and filling the root canals, and then restoring the tooth with a filling or crown.
Treatment Scheme
Root canal treatment is usually carried out in several stages:
1
Preparation: Before the procedure, the dentist conducts an X-ray examination to determine the condition of the tooth and root canals. Then, local anesthesia is administered for patient comfort. The tooth is isolated using a dental dam.
2
Removal: After anesthesia, the dentist creates an opening in the tooth to access the dental pulp and root canals. The dental pulp is removed with instruments, such as files, to clean the root canals of infection and damaged tissue.
3
Cleaning: After the dental pulp is removed and the root canals cleaned, the inside of the tooth is flushed with special medications to eliminate any remaining infection.
4
Filling the canals: After cleaning and flushing, the dentist fills the canals with a special material, usually rubber cones or gutta-percha. This helps prevent re-infection.
5
Restoration: After the canal treatment, it's necessary to place a filling or crown on the tooth to restore its function and appearance. For a positive and long-lasting result, the patient should follow the dentist's recommendations regarding post-procedure care and regular oral health monitoring, ensuring the tooth's durability.

Procedure indications
Root canal treatment is typically required in the following situations:
1
Caries: If caries has reached the dental pulp, causing inflammation, root canal treatment is required.
2
Trauma: In the event of a trauma (such as a blow or tooth fracture), the dental pulp can be damaged, necessitating root canal treatment.
3
Infection: If the dental pulp is infected with bacteria or other microorganisms, root canal treatment is necessary to remove the infection and save the tooth.
4
Crack: If a tooth has a crack that reaches the dental pulp, then root canal treatment is necessary to prevent the spread of infection and save the tooth.
