Installation of braces
When installing braces, the doctor conducts a detailed clinical examination, including radiography and dental impressions. Based on the data obtained, he determines the nature and degree of orthodontic disorders, which allows choosing the most effective braces system. Patients are offered a choice between different types of braces, taking into account their aesthetic preferences.
Ligature Braces
There is a side effect to such fastening – it creates additional friction, which causes a counter-inflammatory reaction of the surrounding tissues and thereby slows down the speed of tooth movement. However, in some clinical cases, this friction effect is necessary for more quality control of the treatment.
Among the disadvantages are also the need for correction no less than once a month, discomfort in the first days after the system installation due to excessive pressure on the teeth, more complex oral hygiene, the possibility of ligatures staining with food dyes, slower tooth movement speed compared to self-ligating braces.
An important point when wearing brace systems, is proper oral hygiene and adherence to the rules and peculiarities of eating with braces. The more components in the brace system, the higher the likelihood of contamination in spaces near these details.
When wearing ligature braces, it is possible for the color of the rubber band fixators (ligatures) to change due to the accumulation of dyes from food (tea, coffee, wine, juices). In case of noticeable color changes of the rubber bands, it is important to timely visit the orthodontist for their replacement and maintaining the optimal appearance of the brace system.
SELF-LIGATING BRACES
These are high-tech brace systems that allow for the correction of even very significant crowding of teeth in short terms. The advantages include:

Hygiene
Hygiene for all types of braces is carried out daily using an orthodontic toothbrush with soft or ultra-soft bristles, using sweeping motions from the gum to the cutting edge. To clean all the bends of the system, we also recommend using an irrigator (a device that emits a jet of water under pressure) for cleaning areas of the teeth that are difficult to reach with a brush, as well as using interdental brushes. It's better to carry an irrigator, a travel toothbrush, and toothpaste with you, as food particles often get caught on the small details of the braces.
Currently, we can also cover teeth with fluoride varnish, which does not wash off and stays on the enamel for up to six months. It isolates the tooth from the negative effects of plaque. If oral hygiene is not maintained while wearing brace systems, problems arise not only with tooth enamel but also with gums (inflammation, bleeding). It is recommended to perform professional oral hygiene in the clinic every 3 months, and in case of poor oral hygiene and gum inflammation – at every activation. Professional hygiene of the brace system is performed at each activation and is included in its cost.
